One of the titles DC had that I really wish they didn’t relaunch. I loved B&R and it would’ve been cool to see it keep going from #26.
So I Read Today… Detective Comics #1 (Vol.2)
Mark my words here, DCnU Batman is not fucking around, and unlike every single other hero he’s not an amateur. At least this is what I got from reading Detective Comics #1, the quintessential Bat-book is easy one of the strongest reads in this new batch of DC comics. The tale begins showing off a few things we already know from JL #1: Batman is a hero, but is regarded as something else by most of the law enforcement teams, he’s close to a very young red-headed Jim Gordon who knows that a city like Gotham needs more of Batman than they are willing to admit.
Batman is a loner in this first tale, there is no Robin around, just Alfred, the character relies heavy on high tech, but with no Oracle around he’s completly dependent of his detective skills. The issue begins with Batman hunting, his prey is none other than the clown prince of crime, The Joker, who seems very fresh and revitalized. You’ll be scared by the new highlights of his personality and the implications of his actions at the very end of the magazine one that will leave you hanging and waiting for more.
This action-packed fest is full of intrigue and mystery, and is brought to you by Tony Daniel, who writes, pencils and inks the whole issue. This man is no stranger to Batman since he’s been working with the character for almost 3 years now. You could think that because of this his take on the character would be a little stale. None of it sir, what we get instead is one of the greatest reads I’ve had with the new 52 so far along Action Comics #1. If you haven’t read it, you should… like NOW.
Much respect for Tony Daniel for writing and penciling this (he actually doesn’t ink). Lovin’ the hero that Batman is showing himself to be and the villain Joker is ruthlessly becoming.
